Can I recover accidental deletions?

Modified on Tue, 19 May at 11:57 AM

Recovery of deleted items depends on what was deleted and how quickly you contact support. Some deletions are permanent, while others may be recoverable with support assistance.

What can potentially be recovered:

Some items in HearLink are soft-deleted or can be recovered if caught quickly:

Patients - Recovery is possible but not straightforward. Contact HearLink support immediately if you've accidentally deleted a patient record.

Appointments - May be recoverable depending on when they were deleted. Contact support as soon as possible.

Archived items - Some record types like appointment types are archived rather than deleted, and can be restored by the user.

Other records - Various other record types may be recoverable. If in doubt, contact support immediately.

What is permanently deleted:

Many deletions in HearLink are permanent to protect data integrity:

Invoices and financial records - Once deleted, these cannot be recovered.

Clinical records and hearing tests - Permanent deletions to maintain audit trail integrity

Most system records - The majority of deletions are immediate and permanent

Time is critical:

While there's no hard time limit for recovery requests, successful recovery becomes significantly harder as time passes. If you've accidentally deleted something important:

  1. Contact HearLink support as soon as possible - The sooner you report it, the better chance of recovery
  2. Provide details - Note what was deleted, when, and by whom if you know
  3. Check the Audit Log - This shows what was deleted and when, which helps support locate the record

Using the Audit Log:

The Audit Log tracks the majority of deletions showing who deleted what and when. While it doesn't restore deleted items, it provides crucial information for support to attempt recovery.

Prevention is better than recovery:

HearLink shows warning dialogs before deleting important records. To avoid accidental deletions:

Read warning messages carefully - Don't click through deletion warnings without reading them

Restrict deletion permissions - Use Groups to limit who can delete critical records

Double-check before confirming - When you see a delete confirmation, verify you're deleting the correct item

Train your team - Ensure staff understand the permanence of deletions

Recovery is never guaranteed, even when technically possible. The best protection is preventing accidental deletions in the first place through careful workflows and appropriate permissions.
