What happens when a patient unsubscribes from marketing emails?

Every campaign email sent through HearLink includes a secure unsubscribe link by default. When a patient uses this link, HearLink records that they have opted out and stops sending them campaign emails.

How the unsubscribe link works

Each link is unique to the patient and cannot be reused or changed. HearLink adds the link to the email footer automatically.

What happens when a patient unsubscribes

Confirmation page: The patient is taken to a confirmation page in your organisation's colours, where they confirm they want to unsubscribe from marketing emails.

Contact permissions: The patient's contact permissions are updated to show they have opted out.

Future campaigns: The patient is shown in the Opted Out count on the campaign overview and excluded from the target count, so they no longer receive campaign emails.

Record keeping: A note and an audit log entry are created to record the unsubscribe.

Why this matters

UK marketing email regulations and mailbox providers require marketing emails to give recipients a way to unsubscribe. Recording each unsubscribe:

  • keeps your campaigns compliant.
  • helps your emails keep being delivered reliably.
  • gives you a traceable record of each patient's opt-out.
